COURSE OVERVIEW

The NCCER Electrical Level 1 course is the first step in a structured training program designed to equip individuals with the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary for a successful career in the electrical trade. This course covers essential topics such as electrical safety, basic circuitry, wiring methods, conduit bending, National Electrical Code (NEC) compliance, and an introduction to electrical systems.

Students will engage in hands-on training and theoretical instruction to develop practical skills in working with electrical components, tools, and materials. This program aligns with industry standards and prepares individuals for further specialization in the electrical trade, including residential, commercial, and industrial applications. Upon successful completion, students will receive NCCER Electrical Level 1 certification, validating their foundational knowledge and readiness for advanced training.

This NCCER Electrical Level 1 course provides the foundational knowledge necessary to advance into Electrical Level 2 and beyond, preparing students for careers as apprentices, journeyman electricians, and electrical technicians in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.

Course Objectives

  • Develop Basic Electrical Theory and Circuit Understanding
    • Understand the principles of voltage, current, resistance, and power.
    • Apply Ohm’s Law and basic electrical formulas to practical applications.
    • Learn the differences between AC and DC circuits and their applications.
  • Identify and Use Electrical Tools and Materials
    • Safely operate essential hand and power tools used in electrical work.
    • Identify and properly handle electrical components such as wiring, fuses, circuit breakers, outlets, and switches.
    • Learn tool maintenance and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Read and Interpret Electrical Drawings and NEC Compliance
    • Understand basic electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprint symbols.
    • Recognize and apply National Electrical Code (NEC) standards for proper installation and compliance.
    • Identify diverse types of wiring methods, including Romex, MC cable, and conduit systems.
  • Perform Basic Electrical Installations and Wiring Techniques
    • Learn proper techniques for residential and commercial wiring.
    • Install and wire receptacles, light fixtures, and switches.
    • Understand grounding and bonding principles for safe electrical installations.
  • Practice Conduit Bending and Installation
    • Identify diverse types of conduit materials (EMT, PVC, rigid).
    • Demonstrate basic conduit bending techniques using manual and power tools.
    • Understand conduit sizing and installation per NEC guidelines.
  • Develop Workplace Communication and Professional Skills
    • Demonstrate effective workplace communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
    • Understand employer expectations and job site professionalism.
    • Learn time management and job site documentation skills.
