EET1033 Fundamentals of DC/AC (3 Semester Credits Hours)

This course offers a general introduction to the electrical concepts used in ohms and Kirchhoff’s voltage and current laws applied to dc series, parallel and series-parallel circuits. Also it includes atomic theory, electromotive force, resistance and electrical power equations. Also, the course provides an introduction to ac theory, circuits and components including inductors, capacitors, transformers, principles of electronics and semiconductors components, and its applications as well as the principles of operation of different devices and its appropriate selection.

 

EET1516 Electric Motors Application (3 Semester Credits Hours)

This course is focused on the characteristics, operation, control, selection, installation and applications of different electric motors. electric motors such as: single phase, three phases, hermetic compressors, multi-speed and variable and electronically commutated are studied. activities in the labs are planned in order to connect, wiring starting methods, interpret connection diagrams and verify technical conditions of parts and troubleshooting. in addition electrical and safety codes also will be emphasized.

 

ACR 1052 Fundamentals of Refrigeration (3 Semester Credit Hours)

This course is an introduction to basic concepts related to heat and air conditioning cooling, the study of the physical laws relating to refrigerants and basic components of a mechanical refrigeration system for vapor compression. It Includes topics such as: Types and functions of compressors, condensers, evaporators and expansion, types of refrigerants, the ozone layer, the rules of the Environmental Protection Agency, how to solder copper pipes, description of how a vacuum is done, how to charge a refrigeration system with refrigerant and the use of the recovery machine. The course will be focused on saving energy and preserving the environment by using green technologies with special attention to new technologies applied to high efficiency HVACR systems, as well as studying the mechanical and safety codes on the most significant topics related to the subject. This course is also taught in the Spanish Language.

 

ACR1113 Principles & Applications of Electricity (3 Semester Credit Hours)

A study of electrical circuits applied to air conditioning and heating. Topics include: electrical symbols, schematics real circuits, diagnostics of the most common electrical problems in the compressors’ electric motor, and forms or methods used to start a compressor. Other topics include electrical connections and air conditioning system protective controls, as well as explaining and making electrical connections of low voltage components. The course content will be taught through theory and practice. The course will be focused at saving energy and preserving the environment by using green technologies with special attention to new technologies applied to high efficiency HVACR systems, as well as studying the electrical and safety codes on the most significant topics related to the subject. This course is also taught in the Spanish Language.

 

ACR1215 Refrigeration Systems (3 Semester Credit Hours)

This course discusses equipment and commercial refrigeration components, covering the operation and construction features of each of them. Topics include: compressors, evaporators, condensers, refrigerant flow regulators, auxiliary components, receivers, heat exchangers, accumulators, filters, eye visor, protective devices and control, thermostat, pressure controls, timers. In workshops, students will acquire skills in handling tools and measurement instruments in the service of cooling systems. The course will be focused at saving energy and preserving the environment by using green technologies with special attention to new technologies applied to high efficiency systems, as well as studying the mechanical and safety codes on the most significant topics related to the subject. This course is also taught in the Spanish Language.

 

ACR1500 Air Conditioning Systems (3 Semester Credit Hours)

This course discusses the installation and operation of different types of air conditioning systems used today. Topics include: basic concepts of air conditioning systems, comfort conditions, AC load estimation, the use of diagrams, mechanical components of the system, and types of equipment including basics of heating systems. In workshops, students will acquire skills in handling tools and measurement instruments in the repair and installation of the units and components. The course will be focused at saving energy and preserving the environment by using green technologies with special attention to new technologies applied to high efficiency HVACR systems, as well as studying the mechanical and safety codes on the most significant topics related to the subject. This course is also taught in the Spanish Language.

 

ACR2420 Air Distributions and Balance (3 Semester Credit Hours)

This course is an introduction to the basic principles of air distribution and ventilation in AC systems. Topics include: indoor air quality, methods for controlling pollution sources, ventilation and the use of means for cleaning the air, Concepts of MERV and Naima, Psychometric, humidification, humidifiers, sizing, installation and servicing, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance, and ASHRAE 62.1 2007, Standards of acceptable indoor air quality. Other topics include: duct system design, fundamentals of air flow, analysis of balance or equilibrium in supply and return ducts, DOAS systems, duct works, and insulation measurements. The course will be focused at saving energy and preserving the environment by using green technologies with special attention to new technologies applied to high efficiency HVAC systems, as well as studying the mechanical and safety codes on the most significant topics related to the subject. This course is also taught in the Spanish Language.

 

ACR2031 Blue Prints and Design Code (3 Semester Credit Hours)

Blueprint Reading is an entry level course; primarily delivered through lecture and practical exercises. The study of the principals involved in the use and interpretation of the drawings and specifications commonly used in construction. Plan views, elevations, sections and schedules are examined in depth. Use of various lines and symbols are explained. Students will practice visualizing the three-dimensional building from two dimensional drawings in a heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC/R) field. Topics include concepts of geometric figures and formulas, conversion tables, common abbreviations, symbols, drawing, sketching, views, plans, schedules, and technical specifications. The students also work with the Florida Building Mechanical Code to obtain a better understanding of the principles, regulations and organization of the different topic of the course. This course is also taught in the Spanish Language.

After eight months of HVAC training courses at our Miami school, you will be ready for an entry-level position in the A/C Refrigeration industry. You will also have the opportunity to continue your coursework at CBT toward an A.S. in A/C Refrigeration Technology, giving you even better employment options. The average salary for an A/C & Refrigeration Technicians was $40,630. Your salary will depend on various factors, including certifications, location, and the level of experience that you have.

Q: What Do HVAC-R Technicians Do?

A: HVAC Technicians work on heating, ventilation, cooling, and refrigeration systems that control the temperature and air quality in buildings. Some of their duties include but are not limited to:

  • Install, clean, and maintain HVAC-R systems
  • Install electrical components and wiring
  • Inspect and test HVAC-R systems and components

Q: What Will I Learn in an HVAC Training Program?

A: Our curriculum covers very diverse courses that will support the student in obtaining transferable skills that will be used in the HVAC and Refrigeration field.   We focus on A/C systems and troubleshooting so that the student may see the technical aspect of their field.  As well as planning and management skills within many of our courses such as, Blueprints and Design Codes and Air Distribution System and Duct work.   We also include many principles of technology in our curriculum which can best be seen in our Electric Motors and Controls class.

Environmental issues are addressed throughout our curriculum and our students will obtain Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification prior to leaving school in order to be employable in any job that requires work with refrigerants.  Laboratory coursework is an integral part of this program which includes careful instructions on the use of and care of tools, equipment, materials and processes found in the HVAC industry. A: The program includes theoretical and hands-on courses in the installation, basic design, maintenance and repair of residential and commercial refrigeration, air conditioning, and heating equipment.

Q: Does the Program Include HVAC Certification?

A: Our students attain their EPA 608 and OSHA 10 as part of the HVAC program to be employable in any job that requires working with refrigerants.

CBT offers students who are interested additional certifications such as the EPA 609 and ESCO employment ready certifications.  These are designed especially for students and entry level technicians.  This provides instructors with feedback to validate each participant’s understanding of the course material which in turn provides employers with a job readiness profile.  CBT encourages students to add on these courses toward the end of their program.

Q: Will I Be Able to Find a Job in HVAC?

A: CBT has a career service department that works alongside our students and graduates in order to support them in finding gainful employment in the HVAC field.  The HVAC industry has an expected job growth in the next 10 years and CBT continuously works alongside employers to recruit graduates for available job openings.

Q: Where do HVAC Systems Technicians Work?

A: HVACR Technicians are generally employed in the heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration contractor industry. They will often work as contractors and/or for businesses that service Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration systems. HVACR Systems Technicians often perform work in various types of commercial and/or residential type areas.  Possible employment opportunities are to be an A/C Tech, HVAC Installer, Systems Maintenance.

Q: What Happens After Graduation?

A: After you’ve enrolled and completed your diploma program, you will be able to complete basic HVAC-R technician duties. The Bureau of Labor Statistics states that “The U.S. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires all technicians who buy, handle, or work with refrigerants to be certified in proper refrigerant handling. Our training program is designed to prepare you to sit for the EPA certification exam.
