Program Overview
Welcome to CBT Technology Institute's ESL program, where we offer high-quality, full-time English courses designed to transform your personal and professional life. In the diverse City of Miami, we recognize the immense opportunities that come with mastering the English language. Our program has been developed for students eager to improve their communication skills and unlock new possibilities for themselves and their families.
English as a Second Language (ESL) Program
The ESL Program at CBT Technology Institute is designed to help students develop English language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The program supports students in achieving their academic, professional, and personal communication goals.
Instructional Approach
Students learn in an interactive, student-centered environment focused on developing practical communication skills. Instruction emphasizes listening, comprehension, and speaking aligned with individual student goals.
Learning activities include structured conversations, research assignments, interviews, and real-life communication scenarios. Students also participate in language lab activities to strengthen listening comprehension and oral communication, including technology-mediated interactions.
At the advanced level, students engage in intensive oral practice to build fluency and confidence in extended conversations. Instruction focuses on real-world communication, including public services, workplace communication, and social interaction.
Program Structure
- Six proficiency levels (Beginning to Advanced)
- Each level: 8 weeks
- Weekly instruction: 20 hours
- Total per level: 160 hours
Students are placed in the appropriate level based on placement procedures.
Program Delivery Format
The ESL program is offered in both face-to-face and hybrid formats (hybrid available only for domestic students).
The hybrid format combines:
- Scheduled in-person classroom instruction
- Synchronous online instruction
The hybrid program follows the same curriculum, learning outcomes, instructional materials, and number of instructional hours as the face-to-face format.
Technology Requirements for Hybrid Students
Students enrolling in the hybrid format must have access to:
- A reliable internet connection
- A computer or tablet compatible with institutional platforms
- Audio and video capability for live online sessions
CBT Technology Institute provides orientation and support to help students successfully use required technology.
Student Services
ESL students have access to student services, including orientation, academic advising, and technical support. Hybrid students receive the same level of support as those attending in person.
Tuition and Fees
Tuition and fees are published in the institutional catalog and on the CBT Technology Institute website. Additional costs may include materials and technology requirements for hybrid participation.

ESL1 – Basic English for Low Beginners (6 Semester Credits Hours)
The student will understand the process of learning another language, the alphabet, how to build vocabulary and use a dictionary, principles for correct pronunciation, and vocalization. There will be an integrated (multimedia) approach to acquire proficiency in the basic skills of the language, listening/understanding, speaking, reading, writing, and cross-cultural awareness. The course will also emphasize practical vocabulary use, progressive grammatical explanations and accurate pronunciation.
ESL2 – English for High Beginners (6 Semester Credits Hours)
Students continue to develop the speaking and listening skills necessary to participate in classroom and group discussions. In order to build oral communication, there will be an emphasis on being functional in daily activities and emergency situations and highlights include interviews, pair and group work, and discussions. There is continued emphasis on practical vocabulary and pronunciation practice. Practice in understanding and using the spoken language; reading and writing with progressive grammatical explanations.
ESL3 – Low Intermediate Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking (6 Semester Credit Hours)
Students continue to develop the reading, speaking and listening skills necessary to participate in classroom and group discussions. In order to build oral communication, there will be an emphasis on introductions, interviews, pair and group work, discussions, and individual presentations. The course continues emphasis on practical vocabulary and accurate pronunciation. Practice in understanding and using the spoken language; reading and writing with progressive grammatical explanations.
ESL4 – High Intermediate Listening, Reading and Speaking (6 Semester Credit Hours)
Students continue to practice the reading, speaking and listening skills necessary to participate in classroom, group, and individual discussions. In order to progress in oral communication, there will be an emphasis on preparing for job interviews, being functional in real life situations, and discussing current events through group discussions and individual presentations. Emphasis on practical vocabulary and accurate pronunciation will be reinforced. Practice in understanding and using the spoken language; reading and writing with progressive grammatical explanations.
ESL5 – Advanced Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking (6 Semester Credit Hours)
Students continue to practice the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills necessary to participate in classroom, group, and individual discussions. In order to progress in oral communication, there will be an emphasis on preparing for job interviews, being functional in real life situations, and discussing current events through group discussions and individual presentations. Emphasis on practical vocabulary, accurate pronunciation and writing will be reinforced. Practice in understanding and using the spoken language; reading and writing with progressive grammatical explanations.
ESL6 – Conversational English for Advanced Students (6 Semester Credit Hours)
This conversational English course furthers student knowledge of oral expression, grammar and reading skills. The students will interrelate with each other under the instructor's direction. The expressions and sounds will be revised in the 1st level of study.
