Program Overview

The Associates in Networking Administration provides the student with a curriculum that begins with the basic understanding of computer components through computer systems diagnostics and repair. It will teach students about complex networking theory and provide them with hands-on practice creating networks utilizing Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems. They will also apply what they have learned in a ā€œHands Onā€ lab environment with equipment and software that is indicative of what they may encounter in the world of work.

A Network Administrator is an IT professional who works with infrastructure involving computer hardware or software within a network. They ensure that systems such as informational databases or company software programs run smoothly and efficiently. IT jobs such as this are challenging and exciting, as each position requires specific skills and knowledge, and no two positions are exactly alike.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

This course is a comprehensive introduction to Microsoft Office. It will feature four distinct programs: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook. In MS Word, the student will learn how to create and edit and format documents, and format text and paragraphs. In MS Excel, the student will learn to work with formulas and functions, format a worksheet, and to work with charts. In MS PowerPoint, the student will create/modify a presentation, insert objects into a presentation, and finish a presentation. In MS Outlook, the student will be trained in the usage of e-mail and the management of information in the application. There are some activities that integrate some of these applications which are very beneficial for students who will use these applications in the real working environment.

This course prepares individuals to install, configure, and administer Windows 7. The course provides hands-on instruction for students who want to prepare for the Microsoft certification exam and succeed as a Microsoft network and system administrator. Certification track which is designed to be a vendor-neutral exam that measures your knowledge of industry-standard technologies and methodologies in the area of system security.

Windows Server 2012 is a powerful and complex operating system. Over the next few weeks you will learn a great deal about Windows Server 2012, including deployment methods, management of user and service accounts, maintenance of Active Directory, configuration and troubleshooting of the DNS, Remote Access and Network Policy Server roles, working with file services and file system security, and implementing update management The course also prepares students for an exam that is part of the Microsoft Solution Associate (MCSA) certification.

This course is the first college level English course for students. This course emphasizes the skills necessary to prepare you for college level writing. In this course students will develop an understanding of effective, college level writing with an emphasis on exposition and research essays. Oral and written communications of impressions and judgments concerning assigned readings in the essay and allied genre are required. This course also focuses on the building of an active vocabulary and on correct sentence and paragraph structure.

This course is the second required English core course for students pursuing an Associate’s degree. It is a course in reading, writing and critical thinking which emphasizes composing essays, producing a documented paper based on research, and reading and writing. The class will be conducted partly through lecture/discussion, and through small work groups that allow the student maximum practice in developing critical thinking, reading and writing skills.

The students will be introduced to the concepts necessary for the algebraic operations and will be instructed in the understanding of the real number system, polynomials, graphing of linear equations, equalities, and inequalities. The subject will be an application-driven course using real data to solve real world problems. This course is also taught in Spanish.
