    CPR – BLS FOR HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS

    Course Objective:

     
    Perform Heimlich’s Maneuver in adult and relieve FBAO in children

    At the completion of the CPR-BLS Seminar the participants will be able to :
    1. Delineate information about heart disease and stroke, risk factors, signals and actions for survival, prudent heart living, and heart and lung function.
    2.Demonstrate the proper techniques to perform one-rescuer CPR, management of foreign body airway obstruction in the adult, child and infant and to perform two-rescuer CPR in the adult victim of cardiac arrest
    3.Use barrier devices appropriately
    4.Describe the appropriate use of the automated external defibrillator
    5.Perform Heimlich’s Maneuver in adult and relieve FBAO in children

     
    Course Number: CPR-BLS-01
    Course Credits: Non-credit (8 Contact Hours)
     
    Course Description : The Basic Life Support seminar is designed to teach the skills of CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) for victims of all ages ( including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen), use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction ( FBAO).

    Course Content : It is expected that the participant will have the information and skills necessary to do the following :
    1.Describe the links in the AHA Chain of Survival, including the importance of:
    -Activating the appropriate emergency response system (phoning 911)
    -Performing CPR and using a barrier device
    -Providing bad-mask ventilation and early defibrillation
    2.Describe the steps of CPR:
    -When start CPR, rescue breathing, including ventilation with a barrier device and bag mask ventilation (with and without oxygen)
    -How to check for normal breathing or signs of circulation
    -The ABC sequence of CPR
    -When and how to use an AED
    -The signs of severe of complete FBAO and how to relieve FBAO in the responsive and unresponsive victim
    3.Describe the sign of 5 major emergencies in adults:
    -Heart attack
    -Stroke
    -Cardiac arrest
    -Respiratory arrest
    -FBAO
    4.Describe strategies to prevent sudden infant death syndrome in infants and injuries in children.
    5.Activation of the emergency response system (phone 911)
    6.Rescue breathing using mouth to mouth ventilation, mouth to barrier device ventilation (with and without oxygen), and bag mask ventilation with oxygen for adult, infant, and child victim.
    7.1 and 2-rescuer CPR for adult, infant, and child victims
    8.Use of an AED for victim ≥ 8 years of age (and approximately 25 kg or more)
    9.Relief of FBAO in the responsive and unresponsive victim of any age

     

    Intended Audience : This Seminar is intented for participants who provide healthcare to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. The course is also designed for anyone who is required to take a health care provider course for employment.

     

    Course Methodology : The seminar includes background materials, instructional methodologies and a videotaped overview of cognitive information, video taped skills demonstration and practice, instructor-led practice scenarios and peer practice sessions

     

    Seminars Benefits :

    -The Seminar will be conducted in accordance with the Guidelines established by the American Heart Association (AHA)
    -This seminar covers everything all the hands-on training components.
    -A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded at the completion of the seminar
    -Experienced Instructors will use videos, printed materials, and demonstrations on mannequins representing infants, children, and adults to teach proper techniques for performing CPR and the relief of foreign-body airway obstruction
    -Participants practice the techniques on mannequins and have opportunities to ask questions and get individualized instruction.

     

    Course Evaluation Methods:

    -Attendance and promptness is an expected behavior and is essential for the successful completion of the course objectives
    -The final test for the course is a combination of demonstrating CPR and FBAO skills and taking a written test.

     

    Course Renewal :
    -Because CPR is a skill that must be practiced, it’s wise to repeat a course or seminar at least every 2 years to maintain your ability and besides it is necessary to renew the certificate.
    -Repeating the course also allows you to learn about any new advances or discoveries in CPR techniques.
